How to hold or forward your mail with the Croatian post office

Everyone planning a move or an extended trip away may wonder what to do about their mail. If you have a friend or a relative who can visit your home once in a while and pick up the post (bills and letters), your problem is solved. But what if you don’t have a baba to stop by regularly?
The good news is that Hrvatska pošta (Croatian Postal Office) offers options to put your mail on hold or redirect it to a temporary address while you’re gone or moving. Putting your mail on hold or redirected is shockingly expensive, but sometimes you have no other choice.

How to hold or forward your mail at the Croatian post office
How to put your mail on hold in Croatia
Anyone residing in Croatia can ask Hrvatska pošta to keep their mail on hold while they are away from their home. If you do this, Hrvatska pošta will store all your received mail and packages at their post office or sorting office.

All you need to do to activate this service is visit the postal office closest to your home and complete a written request, which they will provide.

Hrvatska pošta will store your mail for up to 30 days. You must pick up your mail and pay for the delivered service within 30 days. If you don’t pick up your post on time, the post office will return it to the sender after 30 days.
This service includes two types of requests which are described below.
Mail hold service #1
Zahtjev za zadržavanjem prispjele pošiljke u PU/sortirnici (Request for keeping postal items at the postal office/sorting office)
Cost: 4 euros
Mail hold service #2
Zahtjev primatelja Paket 24 pošiljke za zadržavanjem prispjele pošiljke u PU/sortirnici (Request for keeping Package 24 postal items at the postal office/sorting office)
Cost: 4 euros

How to forward your mail to another address in Croatia
Another option the post office offers is redirecting your mail to a temporary address in Croatia. You can use this service while traveling or moving from one home to another. The request can be submitted at the post office closest to your home.

The forwarding service is valid for a period of 90 days. Considering the period, this can be a more practical option if you’ll be gone longer than 30 days or are unsure exactly when you’ll return.
This service includes four types of requests, described below.
Mail redirect service #1
Zahtjev za nadoslanjem paketa i EMS pošiljke na drugu adresu (Request for redirecting postal packages and EMS items to another address)
Cost: 4 euros per day
Mail redirect service #2
Zahtjev za nadoslanjem pošiljaka za fizičke osobe: pismo, dopisnica, prioritetno pismo, preporučena i vrijednosna pošiljka (Request for redirecting the postal items for private users – letters, postcards, priority letters, registered mail, and insured mail)
Cost: 8 euros per day
Mail redirect service #3
Zahtjev za nadoslanjem pošiljaka za poslovne korisnike: pismo, dopisnica, prioritetno pismo, preporučena i vrijednosna pošiljka (Request for redirecting the postal items for business users – letters, postcards, priority letters, registered mail, and insured mail)
Cost: 16 euros per day
Mail redirect service #4
Zahtjev za nadoslanjem Paket 24 pošiljke na drugu adresu koju odredi primatelj (Request for redirecting Package 24 postal items to another address)
Cost: 4 euros per day
How to authorize someone to pick up your mail in Croatia
If you want, someone else can pick up your mail while you’re away. To activate this service, go to the post office with the person who will pick up your mail.
The post office worker will give you a form to fill out. The form gives authorization to the person who came with you to pick up your mail. The fee for this service is 8,30 euros and authorization is valid for one year.
It is also possible to make an authorization at the address of your choice. In this case, you will pay a fee of 16,59 euros.
