Sometimes we need to shout. One sign that you are Sometimes we need to shout.

One sign that you are truly absorbing a new language is when it becomes a true reflex - when you speak (or shout) without even thinking about it first.

To help you with those moments that warrant an elevated voice, we created a guide to the most common Croatian exclamations. Find even more at the bio link.

Let us know your favorite Croatian exclamations (even the weirdly complex ones) in the comments.

So many of us are over-the-moon-grateful that we have the privilege of living in Croatia. One way to balance the scales is to volunteer in your local communities.

There are 7 fantastic non-profit organizations in Split that are looking for volunteers to help with their efforts to support children, women, the homeless, those suffering from addiction and the environment.

Check out our post at the bio link for a detailed guide to non-profits where you can volunteer now.

A port in the storm with good baked goods. It's b A port in the storm with good baked goods.

It's been a bummer having restaurants and caffe bars closed. We're in our third month without them, which has upended a culture that revolves around social coffees.

Thankfully those that make food can be open for takeaway, which includes @cookie.lab.st, a lovely bakery and coffee shop in the Firule neighborhood of Split. Their coffee is excellent and all of their pastries and sweets are solid (and I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to these things).

Their almond croissant is an absolute revelation. It's not pictured because they were out when I got there. When the shortage was announced to the queue, there was an collective sigh of disappointment. We all felt the sadness. Until the next batch!

Which special spots in Croatia deserve some love for offering fantastic, consistent products and service? Drop them in the comments.

If you'd like to see more of my favorite spots, like this post.

Save for your next trip to Split.

Share with someone you'd like to maybe possibly consider sharing an almond croissant with.
